My Beloved O-Ren Has An Issue...

8D8...unfortunately?...all the fuel pump/press.reg. tech data you posted is for a 99-00 model busa..my fuel pump, press. reg. and return line are all integrated and "internal"...in the tank..i'm trying to find exploded views for my '03 fuel pump system.

But thanks fer trying and L8R, Bill.

(Poppy @ May 29 2007,14:39) Bill, Don't know if these voltage settings will help but here ya go...
That might turn out to be a huge help poppy...it's like ohms 101 consolidated!..thanks!
biggrin.gif

Meanwhile?...I'm leaning more and more towards the fuel pump/press.reg. as in the past 3 days ORen has only idled for maybe 30 minutes or so and has gone through 1/2 tank of gas...i'm thinking the press.reg. got blown (when my fuel line let loose while ridng under load) and the injectors are getting the full blast of 85psi instead of the regulated 43psi it calls for..to bad i don't have a pressure gage to verify..meanwhile?..I did find an exploded view of the fuel pump assy internals on MR CYCLES thanks to VMAN linking it here...and man-o-man..$404 for a new fuel pump assy.

Sure would be an expensive mistake if i'm wrong...but i'll find some way of verifying fuel pressure before i go that route.

Thanks again and L8R, Bill.

Bill, I've got a fuel pressure gauge you can borrow if you need. PM me if so.

I really appreciate the helpful offer but i just checked "JEGS" and they sell a 0-100psi liquid filled fuel pressure gage that takes a 1/8th npt fitting in a choice of serval face styles for less than $20..i may just buy one as we'd prolly spend that much shipping yours back and forth but thanks man...I appreciate your very thoughtful offer!

Jinkster - May I suggest you PM Goldenchild or another member and get a used fuel pump assy first? Likely to be MUCH cheaper, especially if you're not sure that's the problem! (Although I agree that it seems the correct diagnosis)

I wish I could help, Jinks, but I'm no mechanic. It's interesting to see the on-line diagnosis and trouble-shooting, although I'm sorry it's at your expense.

Good luck gettin' her back together, and if you figure out what it is and it's gonna be expensive, I'd be glad to pitch in something to help you out.

Hey Bill, seems to me that there are enough other busa owners near you that you might be able to sweet talk one of them into coming over and swapping tanks with you for a few minutes to do a little troubleshooting with a good fuel pump system. That way you're not out a load of cash that you don't have if that's not the problem.

I know if I were closer I'd be there in a minute!

Anyway, good luck with it.

(Ride_or_Fish @ May 28 2007,07:39) Is CR8E the stock heat range?
there's three to choose from and the CR8E is "hot" but i believe is stock as well.
The stock plug is CR9E or #6263...the Iridium plug is CR9EIX or #3521

I've never heard of anyone using a CR8E in a Busa...use the correct plug and check your fuel pressure.

I think you have a bad pump/regulator or the filter is clogged...either way it's a integrated unit.

You could always just take it to the dealer...they know how to fix Busa's

well gents?..i myself just recently noticed (while browsing through other things) that according to the shop manual the 8E's are listed as a "HOTTER TYPE" plug choice (but still within range as a plug selection) and that the 9E's are the cooler mid-range nominal plug selection listed as "STANDARD"...and the 10E's listed as "COOLER TYPE"...but as i interpret it?..any are acceptable choices leaving the decision to the owner....as i know most would choose a "STANDARD" plug and had i read the manual prior to purchasing plugs?..I would most likely have choosen a standard plug myself as well...however...with florida's high humidity and oxygen deprived warm climates?..i can't see where 1 heat range up is gonna hurt and maybe even "help" toss a spark through this moist oxy deprived climate we have here....and by now?...you may be asking yourself...

"WTF?..."Jinkster" buying hot plugs without even consulting the manual?...WTF made him decide to buy and install CR8E's...a hotter plug?"
rock.gif

and i can answer that question...."soundly"....as follows...

I bought ORen 2 years ago...an '03 w/ only 1,600 miles on the odo and a scared owner who bought this busa as his 1st streetbike....it was bone stock...nothing changed but the oil and the battery...complete with the complete entaurage of factory warning stickers, the full reflector package and the stock snow shovel oem undertail...i've since logged 11K more miles and the CR8E's that went in?...are exactly what came out...as stock..."NGK CR8E"...so i simply pulled the plugs..read them and bought new ones...both..."NGK CR8E's"....and yes..all four.

ORens been running on the hotter type 8E's ever since i owned her...for the past 2 years and 11K miles without incident or fault...and the one thing a "Hotter Type" plug wouldn't do?..is cause fouling....imho?..it definantly ain't the plugs.

and now?...it's friday evening...a week later...it's raining (and supposed to rain all weekend) and i hafta work at least 1/2 a day tomorrow morning...but from noon on?...the rest of the weekend i'm (again) dedicating to bust'in my brain and azz trying to sort this thing out..and just to kick off the party in style?..the first thing i'm going to do is pull the valve cover...yank the CCT and Damper and?...RE-RE-Recheck the cam/crank timing..oh well...at least i gotta hobby for a rainy weekend!

Why would anybody want to run a hotter plug in a high revving, high performance engine
crazy.gif
If you check NGK's website, they only list the 9E's.

I really think you should check your FUEL PRESSURE...too little or TOO MUCH will
cause some serious problems.
