New Florida Motorcycle laws-Effective 01 Oct, 2008

Way out of hand for tag placement in my opinion. I don't see how that could be considered a moving violation since you don't have to be moving to be in violation. Someone drank the bong water!! I think they would be hard pressed to enforce the tag placement as a moving violation. The other stuff which tends to be on the squid'ey side, well, not much to do about that. The tag placement though.... :wtf:

I believe they are "doing the tag thing" is because some riders are using the tag bracket that can be flipped up or down to prevent the tag from being read. They are also disabling the light to prevent the tag from being read. It is as mentioned earlier. Groups of dillweeds thinking rules don't apply to them. We all know peeps like that. Heck, if everybody stays out of Florida maybe me and my buddies can find inexpensive rooms in Daytona this October and during BikeWeek and Leesburg too! :poke:

I expect the paid attorneys to quickly shoot down the tag part.. the other 2 things are in line, but the tag thing is gonna be a big abuse area.. cops r bobos

Florida sucks period. Spent some time there in the 70s. Beautiful place then. Now it is a joke.

That tag law is complete ****. No way that's going to hold up. The wheelie law... Well, unless the police officer has a video of it, I don't think that would hold up either. The speeding part of it? Ha. If I'm going 50+ over the limit, you can bet damn skippy I'm not stopping for any police officer.

These laws, and subsequently the penalties are absolute horse ****.
There is far too large of a gap in the subjective nature of the writing for them to hold up too well in court, so while I would bet for a while lawyers will make out like bandits AND running's/deaths will increase; there is no way these laws will retain their current status.

well as a daytona beach rider if im caught doing 50+ over im usually not gonna stop i don't ride like that through traffic but open highway nice weather its seeable, you have to remain seated at all times ok as a guy in hot weather where's a very sweaty area so i could get a 1k fine for standing up on the pegs to re-adjust the boys ... that outa make for an interesing day in court explaining yourself, and there should be a specification on how long the wheelie is kept cause even a weak bike can pull a wheelie if your off on the clutch too quickly and it doesn't have to even be on purpose can pop it up for a quick second like long wheelies and endo's i could see but a fraction of a second i mean come on give me a break

These laws amount to about the largest pile of **** ever. Who cares if your stunting or riding wheelies or whatever. The guys who don't stunt don't seem to have problems with the laws but then if they passed a law saying you can't go over 50mph in a curve you guys would start crying. These laws are a slap in the face to anybody on 2 wheels. I'm going to stay out of FL on 2 wheels. It would take an act of GOD for me to stop for those officers now.

These laws are just another reason to remind you how important voting is in your state. If you wanna make a change don't vote for ***** brown nose politicians that already hold office. The people who hold political positions have already failed you. The only way to make changes is put somebody else at there desk. Politicians...the only people that get to hold their jobs for years, raise their own pay, and still not get **** done. Maybe I should think about a career change

before they start nalling the guy for improper tag mount I wish they would make it manditory to have insurance on their bikes down there. That would cut a lot of the BS out I belive. If there premiums started going up with every wreck and ticket maybee they would think twice about doing that nonsense.

Long story short...

me and two frineds on parkway last Sunday, me leading on the Busa:laugh: after i switched b/c the kid on the GSXR-600 was running 80-90 for the first 6-7 miles...???

get pulled over, after we switched leaders...

I got a speeding ticket for 60 in a 45,

said they clocked tow guys behind me at 59 and 58...

100 fine to me for the speeding,

100 fine to each of them because thier tags are in front of thier rear tires. Officer pointed to mine and said it needs to be mounted to the rear most portion of the tail. he didn't say anything about side mount.

Good thing, is Parkway is Federal land, no points, no insurance, just pay it and roll on...

+1....... I do NOT stunt nor do i have the desire, im a dragracer. BUT, im with you..... who give's a **** what there doing, how many times have you heard "guy on motorcycle kills family of five"? none that i can think of? Im not saying i condone this type of riding, i just dont see the reason for the "execute on site laws"!!! And you made a GREAT point what if they made a new law like this with the same penalties for DRAGGING YOUR KNEE through a corner? MIGHT BE NEXT TO COME ???

Yeah I don't stunt, drag race or drag knees I just ride!! I have friends that I ride with that do each of the above. I mean if they don't want people popping wheelies then stop making bikes with 175HP. Just about any production motorcycle you go WOT with will loop out. There is a place and time to ride fast and there is a time and place to use more caution when you could possible endanger the lives of other motorist. Have to realize there are always going to be dumbass people that apply dumbass logic to anything they do in life. Why don't they go ahead and apply the same speeding rules to cars, also have the same rule applied to "spinning your tires in a car" because THAT could lead to loss of control of your vehicle....see its all the same **** in the end. Hell go ahead and ban rims over 20 inches unless you have proper brake setups because that makes your car stop like **** anyway, I drove an escalade with 26's on it the other day that stopped like a semi truck. :banghead::banghead:

COULDN'T AGREE MORE!! well said:beerchug:

This State sucks, They said these laws were impossed to "increase highway safety", and reduce motorcycle deaths. But we have no helmet law here. Wouldn't a helmet law increase saftey?
The wheelie law, (I dont care about, I never wheelie) the 50+ mph, I do that, but not very often. But the tag law, same $1000 fine for "improper tag mount". What is the proper tag mount? does it say somewhere?

On Oct 1st when this law went into effect, they mentioned it on all the news stations, and said "the police will try to take it easy on people at first and if you get pulled over they will explain the new fines to you"
Tonight on the news (only the next day) they had news crews out at a local Bike night in South Miami, where FHP had a big sting set up, with undercover cars, a radaring airplane in the sky, and Officers hiding and radaring.
They said 80 people were ticketed and 13 of them were for the +50 MPH, ($1000 fine)

The Sunshine State dont you want to move here?? Wow I hate this State more than ever now
