Busa Bash II - Deals Gap Sept 18-19

I hope Ivan spares us because it's a real pain to schedule time off from work. Besides rain just makes the riding more interesting....right. The only way we would cancel is if it's supposed to rain (downpour) every day.

I hope nobody "wusses" out due to a little percipitation.

Looking forward to it, Chris (and Kim).

I won't cancel unless it's clearly going to be totally saturated for the whole time. I've got a photo-shoot scheduled for 1PM Wednesday on the Skyway...

I'm all for going myself, just dont wanna ride *those* roads in the rain

I just found out that the others that were going with me arn't going to make it. Looks like it will just be kim and I.

Does anyone know if there are any ATV/offroad trails up there close by. I'm thinking about brining the DR-Z also. Should be fun. Chris

from tailofthedragon.com

Road Update: Roads in the area are in great condition. We only received light rain as a result of hurricane Frances. Be more careful as you head towards the Asheville area where they did suffer some flooding.

sorry to hear you cant make it #cruncher, but if Ivan continues to slow its pace, I'll probably bail as well. Those roads are no fun in the storming rain. I'm gonna make the call probably wed. I really really wanna go, but not gonna deal with Ivan and the rain

so unless this thing makes a left turn soon, I think I'm gonna bail. Its going to come right through that area on friday night/sat morning.

Who all *IS* definately going?

just to clarify its predicted path at this point .... its coming right over the gap.

Zukracer,

To answer your earlier question, I-40 is down to one lane each direction at the top of Old Fort mountain due to a mud slide.

If you guys move to another date, let me know. My next planned date there will be Oct 15-17th, but I am willing to change....

at this point I'm gonna make the call that its 80% UNLIKELY that I'll be heading up there. As each day draws closer Ivan it looks like he's coming up to visit the gap on Sat. Current weather looks like cr@p/rain friday-sunday......which means I should save the couple hundred bucks and just have some more drinks on the cruise ship in 24days

So unless Ivan slows to a crawl leaving the area dry and calm winds for the weekend or hangs a left turn in the gulf and kicks TX in the nutz, I'm probably not gonna drive up there

sux cuz I really wanna go .... stupid hurricanes

I'll be there until it runs me off![/QUOTE]

As much as it pains me to say it, I must concede that the latest southeastern USA satellite picture that I just saw makes the Busa Bash appear hopeless!

I'm with you Zuk, unless there is a dramatic change in the forecast, I'm out too and will have to cancel my photo shoot Wednesday.

well I'm gonna toss in the towel at this point .... If anyone is heading up there, BE SAFE!!! those roads aren't the ones you wanna be riding in high gusty winds and rain

Here's my schedule....

Sept 25-Oct 3 - In Seattle
Oct 9 - Oct 18 - On a cruise ship (hurricanes permitting of course
rock.gif
)
Oct 28 - Nov 1 - Savannah, GA

I think its gonna be a little chilly to head up there in Nov, but if anyone can prove otherwise and wants to go, I'm up for it, other wise its looking more like another March/April Busa Bash will be the winner for me.

It looks like your October is like my September, lol. Could you swing October 22nd-24th?

November can hold very odd weather for these mountains. One day, 70 sunny, the next 32 and snow. There would be no way to try and plan a trip ahead then, just my .02...

OK, I give up. I just called the resort and canceled my reservations. I'm just hating it right now because I know I wont be able to schedule time off in October. Guess I'll make it in the spring.

Now, What to do with this time off. I wonder if the beach will be spared. That might be a possibility due to the decreased rates after Labor day. I hope you all have a good time if anyone still goes. Chris
